DENTAL CROWNS: Service

At New City Dental in Pomona, we offer following types of crowns.

1.    Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) dental crowns

They consist of a layer of metal alloy at the base topped by porcelain. They can be color matched to your adjacent teeth. However, porcelain portion can chip or break off and the metal underlying the crown’s porcelain can show through as a dark line, especially at the gum line and even more so if you have gum diseases. PFM can be a good choice for back teeth where the metal is needed for strength.

2.    Emax ( All- ceramic ) Crowns

They provide better natural color match than PFM crown or other crowns. They provide excellent esthetics and more comfortable fit. However, Emax crown is more prone to cracking than PFM Crowns. Emax crowns are lighter and thinner than traditional PFM crowns which means less of your tooth is required to be removed for the crowns to fit. It is recommended for front teeth.

3.    Zirconia Crown

Zirconia Crowns are the strongest dental crowns. However, it is very opaque, making it difficult to match the shade of highly visible teeth in the front of the mouth. It is recommended for back teeth.

4.    Temporary Crowns

Temporary crowns can be made in Dr. Bang’s office while is above permanent crowns are made in a dental laboratory. Temporary crowns are made of resin-based material and can be used up to 2 weeks as a temporary restoration.

Once your case is treatment-planned by Dr. Bang, two appointments are required. At the first visit, Dr. Bang will gently prepare your tooth, take impressions, and make a temporary crown. Dr. Bang provides all the information to a specialized local lab and crown will arrive for permanent restoration within 7-10 days. During your second appointment, Dr. Bang will try-in and evaluate the appearance and fit of the crown before he permanently bonds it into place. Minor adjustments to your bite and a final polish will leave you with one of the finest restorations in dentistry.
